Lasting Legends: The Oscars

Hollywood stars stepped on the red carpet last night for the 92nd Academy Awards. With big names battling it out for the top spots, 1917 was pipped to the post by Parasite who took the win for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. History was made as this is the first time a non-English-language movie has won Best Picture, and also the first time the ceremony did not have a host.

With awards, comes after parties and of course luxurious ensembles from the best designers in the business. Here at Quarter & Last, we want to share with you some of our favourite looks from Hollywood’s men of the moment.

Without a doubt, there’s nothing classier than a black coat and tie at such a swanky event… not forgetting the dicky bow of course. But, here’s how you mix it up a little at one of the most prestigious events of the year.

It’ll be all white on the night

Odell Beckham Jr walked the carpet head to toe in white… even the dicky bow. There’s no doubt that his set-up looks extremely suave, but can we talk about the shoes? Athleisure is a huge trend in men’s fashion at the moment, but do they belong on the red carpet? Dwayne Wade also attended the Vanity Fair party in white but opted for a lace jacket, which is something we’ve not really seen before. Our favourite all-white look, however, had to be from Karamo Brown with the addition of a white suit jacket and gold chains, finished off with white Chelsea boots – a great choice for a long night ahead.

Brown is the new black

A brown suit jacket adds a little something different into the mix and allows you to stand out from the sea of black suits on the carpet. Stars such as Edgar Ramirez, Adam Scott, and Tyrese Gibson were all seen wearing this classic colour, but had each opted for a different finish. How would you rank these out of 3? We’re loving the sheen on Adam Scott’s, but there’s just something about velvet that always looks so charming.

One colour says it all

It seems that opting for one colour throughout your whole look is something the stars are getting on board with. Whether it be more convenient for them or their stylist we’re not sure, but the single colour palette is something we can work with. Though we’ve already discussed our favourite white looks from the night, other stars opted for grey (Ronan Farrow) and black (Joe Manganiello). What do you think about being head-to-toe in one colour?

Paying homage

Though a bright purple suit wouldn’t usually be to our taste, and we’re definitely not feeling the sports trainers on the carpet, we can’t help but praise Spike Lee’s tribute to the late and great Kobe Bryant. Wearing a custom-made suit, the lapels of the purple jacket are finished with a yellow trim – signifying the Lakers' colours, along with Bryant’s basketball number 24 and of course a hat - he never goes anywhere without one.

So that’s our top looks from some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Are there any styles that suit your signature style? Which would you be inclined to try? Let us know in the comments.

Oh, and before you go, though we did say a leather suit wouldn’t be at the top of our shopping list, they’re cropping up everywhere this season with Kanye West sporting a deep navy colour at last night's after party.
