Knowledge is Power: A Step Back in Time

As 2019 draws to a close, we want to take this time to not only look back on the launch and last few months of Quarter & Last but also The Clinkard Group as a whole, as without it we wouldn't be where we are today.

Quarter & Last is the newest division of The Clinkard Group Ltd, a third-generation family owned company with a rich heritage in footwear. To reflect over time, we have put together some imagery to highlight the start and current position of our 96-year story. 

The Clinkard Group was founded in 1924 when husband and wife team Charles and Eveline Clinkard opened their first shoe shop in Middlesbrough, England. Their aim was to provide high quality shoes and a first-rate customer experience; values that remain at the heart of the company to this very day. In 1930 children's shoes were introduced and by 1950 the company expanded its stores throughout the North East of England. 

In 1960, The Clinkard Group expanded into wholesale and during the 70’s, celebrated their 50th birthday. The company continued to grow throughout the 1980’s and in the 2000's the new millennium brought with it a wave of major changes, including the first online store.  

Fast forward to now...

In 2019, The Clinkard Group decided to explore their love and experience of quality men’s footwear and launch a new premium men’s footwear site, Quarter & Last. As one of four websites within The Clinkard Group Ltd, Quarter & Last focuses solely on men’s shoes that combine craftsmanship and quality with contemporary style. 

With times drastically changing over the years, the digital world is now thriving. Social media plays a huge part in business and since launching our website in September, we have had the opportunity to work with a number of Instagram Influencers to promote our brand. Also having a presence in print, we've featured in national and regional titles such as Drapers, Fashion United, Living North Magazine, Country & Town House, Country Wedding and many more.

Seeing Q&L off to a successful start in 2019 opens up great opportunities for 2020, so now it's time to plan the next 12 chapters.
